Missing these two already, SO MUCH.

Dr. Sam Ward, my erstwhile deranged snake hunting companion.
And Vennila.

  1. Your life has been enriched by both of these people and I know you have enriched their lives as well....now we will all pray and work to get Vennila to the U.S. Her sons will come too won't they? Blessings to you and your mom...di

    1. Di, Yes, we're going to try to bring her and boys to the U.S., but it's a challenge rife with pitfalls, problems, and fear. She almost has her passport and should be able to get her visa very soon. I was going to help her before I left, but didn't get that done before going. I'm thinking of starting a "Save Vennila" fund. She has twelve and ten-year old boys. She's only twenty-eight herself. You do the math. I still have trouble getting my mind around her terrible life. I hope we can get her out. One of the greatest obstacles is Rising Star. They are perfectly willing to work her fifteen-hour days for $100 a month until she dies. They treat their Indian employees like children. Now that I'm off the property and out of the country, I feel a little freer to comment. If we are successful with Vennila, we will have to do it with considerable subterfuge right under Rising Star's nose. They would not be in favor of actually saving her and her boys from a lifetime of servitude. They would just pretend they cared, while using and abusing her on a near daily basis. Don't get me started. :) We'll talk privately when I get home. I'm in CLEAN Hong Kong right now. It's a sight to behold. CLEAN. CLEAN. CLEAN.

Thanks for thinking of me. I have a sister who isn't expected to live until the week-end. At least that was the report I got. I need to go to Arizona almost as soon as I get home and get some sleep, but I would like to come and see you for a few minutes. I actually DID buy you something. :)

  2. I'm glad you finally made it to Hong Kong and got a shower after all these months. Whew! I'm so sorry about your sister, I will pray for her. You are probably back in town, I appreciate your taking your time while in India, to keep so many of us entertained, inspired, scared, aghast and giving us a new gratitude for our daily "posh" lives. Let me and everyone else know about the fund for Venilla, I hope it works out, we will support you/her. It's difficult to get someone out, we tried in Russia, but that's probably a whole nother ball of wax; maybe this will be easier, so to speak. Hugs to you Betty!

  3. I'm rooting for Vanilla! (Venilla? Vennila?) Her smile is amazing-- not only pretty, but incredible that she can smile at all when she's had such a hard life.
