Not to be redundant, but . . . . . . . . . .

ANOTHER DEADLY VENOMOUS SNAKE! (hyperventilating). This snake is called a Krait Snake. One of my fellow volunteers found it in HER BEDROOM. (breathing into a paper bag) The Krait is one of the top four deadly snakes of India - which is one of the top four deadly countries of the world. This little guy crawled in from who knows where. (big deep breaths) Look him up on Wikipedia. I've got to run. I'm busy hermetically sealing myself into my room with duct tape. HELP!! That big black blob is the "Shadow of Death".

  1. Well I was going to say "what a pretty snake" but I guess that wouldn't be appropriate. I googled krait snakes, and it did say they came indoors sometimes if was raining. Is it raining? It also said they are seldom enoountered by humans because they're nocturnal and only bite if they're threatened. In the daytime they roll up in a ball and hide their heads - and you can even pick them up. Yeah right!! I'm sure you'll be trying that next chance you get! I'm thinking maybe make yourself a body suit out of duct tape? As the guy in Hill St Blues used to say "let's be careful out there."

  3. Yes, India has some very dangerous snakes. However remember that they have no interest in biting you except in self defense. They have to swallow their food whole and you are much too large for them to eat. Be careful, walk heavily so they feel your footsteps etc. and they will probably leave if they have a chance. Why would they want to attack you? I once got roped into writing something on snakebite which quickly got out of hand and became very long. You can find it at

It's about US snakes but if you wade through it you will get some information. It is also a bit out of date but I am not going to take time to update it.

    1. Thanks, Hal. I think I already knew that snakes won't attack. It's the inadvertent, startled meeting up with one that terrifies me - then they ARE going to bite out of self defense. The really scary thing about this incident is that this snake was found inside a house. With people. Thank you so much for the information, Hal. I will go look it up. I appreciate your letting me know. Wow, I never knew how much I would rely upon a flashlight. P.S. Kraits can be only 10 inches long and still administer a bite that will kill. I don't know how the village people stand it.

    2. Thanks, Sandra. The kittens disappeared about a month ago. One day they were here and the next day they weren't. I have no idea what became of them. There are plenty of possibilities. :)

  5. I agree it's a very striking and cool-looking snake. If only it weren't poisonous! My question is, how do you get the snake out of your house once it's inside?

  8. Hyperventilating just looking at the photo. I still haven't gotten over my run-ins with rattlesnakes in AZ as a child and teen on the way home from the bus stop. This is one of the greatest reasons I live in western Oregon!
